✊🏾 Welcome to the NAACP Ann Arbor Blog: Our Voice, Our Mission, Our Movement

We’re proud to introduce the official digital home of the NAACP Ann Arbor Branch. This space is more than a website — it’s a call to action, a hub for community empowerment, and a reflection of our ongoing fight for civil rights and racial justice in Washtenaw County and beyond.

Who We Are

The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) has been the cornerstone of civil rights advocacy in America for over a century. The Ann Arbor Branch carries that legacy forward, working on the ground to ensure that Black residents and all marginalized communities have access to the same rights, resources, and respect as anyone else.

We are students, parents, educators, entrepreneurs, elders, and young voices rising — united by the belief that justice is non-negotiable.

Our Local Initiatives

We believe that change begins at the grassroots. Here in Ann Arbor, we are actively engaged in:

  • Voting Rights & Civic Engagement: Fighting voter suppression and increasing access to the ballot box in Michigan.
  • Education Equity: Advocating for culturally responsive education and equal resources for Black and underserved students.
  • Youth Empowerment: Building the next generation of leaders through mentorship, scholarships, and ACT-SO achievement programs.
  • Environmental Justice: Addressing the disproportionate impact of climate and pollution in our neighborhoods.
  • Health Access: Pushing for healthcare that is equitable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of Black families.
  • Economic Inclusion: Supporting Black-owned businesses and striving for fair labor practices across all sectors.
  • Criminal Justice Reform: Demanding policing accountability and equitable treatment in the legal system.
